December Musical Madness
As always, December was a busy month for us in the Music Department with concerts, talent shows, church service performances, prelims and continuing show rehearsals (oh, and the usual music classes and lunchtime practising going on too).
We had a Christmas Transitions Concert with a difference this year as our theme was "songs" so it was full of talented singers and vocal groups showing off their fabulous vocals. Our enthusiastic associated primary schools brought their choirs along to sing their hearts out on our stage. There were several solos and duets from our brave pupils, some of whom it was their first time on stage and hopefully not their last. St Machar Voices performed a couple of items by one of their favourite groups Pentatonix which included a cappella singing and table/body percussion. We even had a taster from our school show cast of one of the songs in the show. And of course, staff band Fleetwood Machar couldn't resist the opportunity to make an appearance too.
Wind band and St Machar Voices performed at our Christmas service at St Machar Cathedral which as always was a brilliant performing venue and they sounded amazing. We ended the term with another of our Talent Shows where our pupils volunteered to entertain the entire school on the stage with some vocal performances. This was an opportunity for those who did not perform in the concert to give it a go, and for those in the concert to perform something different. The dance item by Marek and his friends really got the audience going and sent everyone off on their Christmas holidays on a high.
In amongst all this our National 4 - Advanced Higher candidates all completed their performing prelim to prepare them for their final exam in the next few months. After a good break with a well deserved rest for all, we are now excited about what the next term will bring.
