Recordings of our Young People's Performances
Our St Machar Voices group which consists of young people and our Music Staff singing "Song of the Ungirt Runners" at the unveiling of the Sorley Plaque at Powis House in November 2018. The song features the words of the original poem by Charles Hamilton Sorley and music by Miss S McPherson. We even made the news with this one! Very proud moment for all in the Music Department and the school.
The newly formed 3C have been working on this for only 2 periods with Miss Barrie. This showcases the level our young people have achieved in performing in a very short space of time and just how successful our new BGE performing course has been. Most of the performers have been playing for less than a year with a small group who only started 3 weeks ago. Well done to them for showing that practice does indeed make progress!
The young people in 2G have been learning instruments in Music since August 2016. On their final period of Music with Miss Maguire they recorded this group performance of Solo Dance.
This performance by some of the members of 2B features Aiden Finnigan on tuned percussion and Reece Sutherland on drums and was recorded in their final week of S2 Music.
The S2 wind band have been meeting 3 times a week since August when the majority of them started to learn their instruments for the first time. At the end of the year they recorded these pieces. Anyone who has tried to get a sound out of a woodwind or brass instrument for the first time will understand just how much effort, stamina and persistence is needed to learn these instruments. We are sure you will agree that they have made fantastic progress considering they have only been playing for just over 9 months and do not take the instruments home to practise.
Shape of You by Ed Sheeran was arranged by Miss McPherson for the wind band and they had only been learning it for 3 weeks at the time of recording, and Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes was arranged by Mrs Friday.
