We are very proud of our large and well resourced Music department and have worked hard to create a welcoming and productive environment for our young people to learn in. The Music Department is a popular place with the young people and here you will see why.
Our Music Classrooms
We have 4 classrooms in the department and we also have use of a whole school computing room. Each classroom is fully equipped with keyboards, guitars, a drum kit and tuned percussion.

Our Practice Rooms
We have 5 large practice rooms within the department. 3 of these are in the main corridor and 2 are attached to MU3 in the annex.
Each room has a piano and an amplifier and CD player so that the young people can play or sing along with backing tracks. Microphones are available from class teachers for use in these rooms.
The rooms are also used by our Music instructors to teach lessons in, and they are always full of young people wanting to practice at lunch times.
Our practice rooms enable the young people to develop their responsibility and motivation by giving them a space to use without constant supervision. We develop high levels of trust with our pupils in the Music Department, and they respond well to this.
Our Technology Rooms
We have a large Music Computing Suite with 17 computers and 2 Mac minis for our technology classes. We also have a second smaller computing suite in our department and access to a whole school computer suite. We have 2 MacBooks which are used for our Music Technology course and masterclass.
The computers in MU1 all run the Sibelius Music programme which our young people are currently learning to use for composition. We also use these for several music revision and research tasks.
We have a well equipped and fully functioning recording studio which the young people are trained to use. Again this is used for our Music Technology courses.
