Pupils sing for Sorley

November 2, 2018

This afternoon our St Machar Voices choir sang at a civic event at Powis House to unveil a plaque to commemorate the local war poet Charles Hamilton Sorley who was born in Aberdeen.  St Machar Voices consists of young people from S3 to S6 and our 4 Music teachers performing together as one group of musicians.  They sang a moving version of "In Flanders Fields" by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson, and an original composition by Miss McPherson set to the words of the Sorley poem "Song of the Ungirt Runners".

They sounded amazing and their performance was outstanding!  There was not a dry eye in the place and they received several compliments:

"St Machar Academy pupils were tremendous" - Councillor Ryan Houghton

"Great contributions, particularly from St Machar Academy choir" - Kevin Stewart MSP

In even more exciting news we were video recorded singing our original song by STV who will be using the audio from it for features on WW1 over the coming weeks.  A fantastic culmination of teamwork and effort proving once again what a strong team of staff and pupils we have in the Music Department at St Machar Academy.
