S3 Dragons Den

One of our S3 classes has been taking part in a 'Dragons Den' project adapted from our Technologies Faculty. The young people were given the task of composing a short section of music in a minimalist style to go along with a film scene or computer game. They had to research the music of some minimalist composers and then create their own piece of music using Sibelius music writing software. They have been presenting their completed samples of music to a panel of teachers throughout the week followed by a short talk about the composition process, an analysis of the success of their music and questions from the panel.

This has been a great success with many achieving the outcomes for a National 5 Composition Unit while preparing them for the new National 5 composition assignment. The pilot project has enabled them to use and develop their higher order thinking skills of creating, analysing and evaluating. Well done to them all for taking part. Despite the somewhat challenging process of learning to use the software to create music, they all achieved success in the end proving that resilience leads to progress. Here are a few samples of their completed sections of music.
